Cabrera hits for cycle, Yanks top ChiSox (AP)

Melky Cabrera became the 15th Yankees player and their first in 14 years to hit for the cycle, leading New York to an 8-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon. Cabrera hit a three-run homer in the second to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead, doubled in the fourth and chased Mark Buehrle (11-5) with an RBI single in the fifth.

Newcomer Victor Martinez had a career-high tying five hits and four RBIs, Josh Reddick and Rocco Baldelli homered, and the Boston Red Sox reached season highs in runs and hits Sunday in a 18-10 rout of the Baltimore Orioles. It was the fourth straight victory for the Red Sox, whose 23-hit attack included three apiece from Mike Lowell, Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia.

Carl Pavano tossed eight sharp innings and the Cleveland Indians routed the Detroit Tigers 11-1 on Sunday to win their weekend series against the AL Central leaders. Asdrubal Cabrera and Grady Sizemore each hit a two-run homer off Armando Galarraga (5-10) as Cleveland totaled 13 hits and won for the seventh time in 10 games.

Marlins place RHP Badenhop on 15-day DL (AP)

Florida right-hander Burke Badenhop was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained muscle near his neck Sunday, one day after he allowed five earned runs in 1 2-3 innings against the Chicago Cubs. Right-hander Tim Wood was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans to fill Badenhop's spot. Wood didn't allow a run in 7 2-3 innings in four appearances with the Marlins earlier this season.

Third baseman Scott Rolen left his second game with the Cincinnati Reds in the seventh inning when he was struck on his batting helmet by a pitch from Colorado's Jason Marquis. Blue Jays' closer Downs goes back on DL (AP)

Toronto Blue Jays closer Scott Downs was placed on the disabled list Sunday after aggravating the injured left big toe that landed him on the DL earlier this season. The Blue Jays recalled right-hander Jeremy Accardo to take Downs' roster spot. Right-hander Jason Frasor will handle most of the ninth-inning duties while Downs is out.

O's Mora rips Trembley over benching (AP)

Disgruntled third baseman Melvin Mora lashed out at Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley on Sunday after being benched for the third time in four games. "I don't appreciate the disrespect, because I've been playing hurt for a guy who won't respect you. I don't deserve it," the 37-year-old Mora said.

Mets activate OF Sheffield, Putz throws (AP)

Gary Sheffield was activated from the disabled list Sunday but the Mets outfielder was left out of the starting lineup against Arizona right-hander Jon Garland. New York manager Jerry Manuel said Sheffield would be his top pinch hitter off the bench and there was a good chance he would start in the series finale Monday night.
