Jeter suffers bruised foot, leaves game (AP)

All-Star shortstop Derek Jeter left the New York Yankees' game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday with a bruised right foot. Jeter staggered away from the plate after Ricky Romero's pitch struck him on his right foot in the first inning but opted to stay in after a visit from manager Joe Girardi and a trainer.

Brewers send Hardy to minors, drop Hall (AP)

The slumping Milwaukee Brewers sent former All-Star shortstop J.J. Hardy to the minors Wednesday, designated third baseman Bill Hall for assignment and fired their pitching coach. The shakeup will give top prospect, Alcides Escobar, a chance to show he's the shortstop of the future and a potential leadoff man the club sorely lacks.

Rookie Tommy Hanson struck out nine in 6 2-3 innings and the surging Atlanta Braves won again, routing the Nationals 8-1 to snap Washington's eight-game winning streak Tuesday night. The Braves have won four straight, six of seven and 16 of 25 since the All-Star break, a stretch that has made them a factor in the NL playoff race.

Dodgers’ Billingsley to miss next start (AP)

All-Star pitcher Chad Billingsley will miss his scheduled start against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday with a strained left hamstring. Billingsley left his last start against Atlanta on Friday after straining his hamstring on a single. He threw on the side before Monday's series opener against the Giants and still felt the tightness so the Dodgers decided to skip his next start.

Diamondbacks’ Upton put on disabled list (AP)

All-Star Justin Upton was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday by the Arizona Diamondbacks with a right oblique strain, cutting at least two weeks out of what has been a breakthrough season for the talented young outfielder. Dolan: Indians will lose $16M this year (AP)

Cleveland Indians owner Paul Dolan projects the team will lose $16 million this season and says the recent trades of Cy Young winner Cliff Lee and All-Star catcher Victor Martinez were necessary long-term moves. Dolan estimates the team will draw about 1.7 million fans this season, more than 500,000 less than the team expected before opening day.

Boston could only keep Evan Longoria's bat silent for so long. Kevin Hart won his third straight start, Jake Fox and Milton Bradley hit back-to-back homers and the Chicago Cubs beat the Houston Astros 12-3 Thursday for their 11th win in 14 games since the All-Star break. Kosuke Fukudome, who reached base five times, and Ryan Theriot had four RBIs apiece for the Cubs.
