The chairman of the Chicago Cubs apologized in person to Philadelphia star Shane Victorino on Thursday, a day after the center fielder was showered with beer at Wrigley Field. A man in the bleachers threw a cup of beer on Victorino as he was catching a fly ball in the Phillies' 12-5 win Wednesday night.

Rockies OF Fowler to have MRI on knee (AP)

Colorado Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler was scheduled to have a precautionary MRI exam on his left knee after hurting himself in a win over the Chicago Cubs. The MRI was set for Tuesday. On Monday, the rookie crashed face-first into the wall after catching Geovany Soto's drive in the ninth inning.

Diamondbacks demote CF Young to minors (AP)

Center fielder Chris Young, in a season-long offensive funk, has been optioned to Triple A Reno by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Young was hitting .194 with 23 doubles, seven home runs and 28 RBIs in 103 games when he was sent down Monday. He had two hits in his last 30 at-bats, and his average has not been above .205 since April 30.

Beltran hopes to return in 2-3 weeks (AP)

Carlos Beltran took early batting practice on the field Saturday, an encouraging sign for the New York Mets' center fielder as he tries to return from a bone bruise on his right knee. Sidelined since June 22, Beltran is one of 10 Mets on the disabled list. Before his teammates came out for pregame warmups, he took swings from both sides of the plate inside a mostly empty Citi Field.

Seven innings after Clayton Kershaw concluded a brilliant outing, the Los Angeles Dodgers had their first four-game losing streak of the season. Albert Pujols lined an RBI single over the head of center fielder Matt Kemp with two outs in the 15th inning Wednesday night, giving the St. Louis Cardinals a 3-2 victory over the Dodgers.
