Schoeneweis put on DL with depression (AP)
Scott Schoeneweis has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Arizona Diamondbacks because of depression, less than three months after his wife was found dead at their home. The 35-year-old left-hander spent three weeks on the bereavement list after his wife, Gabrielle, was found dead on May 20 in the master bedroom of couple's home in the Phoenix area.
Cardinals put RHP Wellemeyer on DL (AP)
Cardinals pitcher Todd Wellemeyer has been put on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow. St. Louis made the move Tuesday, a day after Wellemeyer was scratched from a scheduled return to the rotation. He has been told to rest the elbow for five days. The Cardinals recalled rookie right-hander Mitchell Boggs from Triple-A Memphis to start against the Cincinnati Reds.

Cubs reinstate C Soto from DL (AP)
Chicago Cubs catcher Geovany Soto, sidelined the past month by a left oblique strain, has been reinstated from the disabled list. The Cubs made the move Friday, and optioned infielder/outfielder Micah Hoffpauir to Triple-A Iowa. Soto, the NL rookie of the year last season, was in the lineup for Friday night's game at Colorado.

Astros' Erstad activated, Brocail on DL (AP)
The Houston Astros activated Darin Erstad and placed right-handed reliever Doug Brocail on the 15-day disabled list on Friday with a right shoulder strain. The 35-year-old Erstad was starting at first base for the Astros on Friday night, the opener of a three-game series with Milwaukee. Erstad had been on the disabled list since July 19 with a left hamstring strain.

Giants activate RHP Martinez from DL (AP)
The San Francisco Giants have reinstated pitcher Joe Martinez from the disabled list and optioned reliever Waldis Joaquin to Triple-A Fresno. Martinez (1-0, 6.75 ERA) was to make his first major league start Wednesday against the Astros. He was hit in the head by a line drive by Milwaukee's Mike Cameron on April 9.
Angels activate Guerrero from DL (AP)
The Los Angeles Angels have activated Vladimir Guerrero from the disabled list, and the eight-time All-Star was in the lineup for Tuesday night's game against the Chicago White Sox. Guerrero missed the previous 21 games with a strained left calf and a strained lower left hamstring. It was his second stint on the DL; he missed 35 games with a torn chest muscle.

The Chicago Cubs have put infielder Andres Blanco on the 15-day disabled list with a strained calf, opening a roster spot for newly acquired Tom Gorzelanny. The Cubs got Gorzelanny from Pittsburgh as part of a five-player deal on Thursday. The left-hander was scheduled to make his first start for Chicago on Tuesday night against Cincinnati.

Rangers 2B Kinsler on DL with hamstring (AP)
The Texas Rangers placed second baseman Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. Kinsler missed five straight starts and said before the game that the injury hadn't improved, but hadn't gotten worse either. Then, 10 minutes before the game's first pitch against Seattle, the team announced that Kinsler was headed to the DL retroactive to July 29.
