Marlins recall LHP West to make start (AP)

The Florida Marlins have recalled left-hander Sean West from Double-A Jacksonville to start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. West was 3-4 with a 4.91 ERA in a previous stint with the Marlins this season. Reliever Luis Ayala was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans after Friday night's 3-2 win over Philadelphia.

Rookie Everth Cabrera hit a grand slam in the ninth inning off closer Francisco Rodriguez to give the San Diego Padres a 6-2 victory over the New York Mets on Friday night. Cabrera, who struck out three times, connected on a 3-2 pitch from Rodriguez (2-3) into the right-field stands to give the Padres their 11th win over New York in 14 games.

The Colorado Rockies took advantage of the late scratch of Chicago Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano for a 6-2 victory Friday night. About 15 minutes before the start of the game, Zambrano was scratched because of a recurrence of a lower back injury. The Rockies jumped on emergency fill-in Sean Marshall for three runs in two innings.

Kelly Shoppach hit a two-run homer and added a solo shot, leading the Cleveland Indians to a 6-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night. The Indians won despite grounding into six double plays, tying an American League record for the 14th time. Even after trading Cliff Lee, Victor Martinez and Ryan Garko, the Indians continued their recent surge, winning 11 of their last 16 games.
