Pence hits pair of 3-run HRs, Astros win (AP)

Hunter Pence hit a pair of three-run homers for a career-high six RBIs, powering the Houston Astros to a 14-6 victory over the Florida Marlins on Wednesday night. Pence's home runs highlighted a five-run first inning and a seven-run fourth that chased Ricky Nolasco (8-8). Florida had won five in a row.

Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada hit back-to-back homers leading off the eighth inning and the New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 on Tuesday night for their eighth win in nine games. Matsui hit a 3-2 pitch from Jesse Carlson (1-5) deep to right to tie it at 4 and Posada followed with an opposite-field drive that just got over the glove of leaping right fielder Joe Inglett.

Jays promote INF Ruiz to fill Rios’ spot (AP)

The Toronto Blue Jays have promoted infielder Randy Ruiz from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill Alex Rios' roster spot. The Blue Jays selected Ruiz's contract and put him in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the New York Yankees. He was batting sixth as the designated hitter. The 31-year-old Ruiz, a Bronx native, hit .320 with 25 homers and 106 RBIs in 114 games with Las Vegas.

Rangers 2B Kinsler to begin rehab stint (AP)

Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler, out since July 28 with a strained left hamstring, will begin a minor league rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Frisco on Wednesday. Kinsler, batting .242 with 23 homers and 63 RBIs, will play two games with Frisco. He is scheduled to rejoin the Rangers at home Friday when they open a series against Boston.

Guerrero’s 400th HR helps Angels by Rays (AP)

Vladimir Guerrero homered twice, including the 400th of his career to put the Angels ahead in the seventh inning, Kendry Morales also hit two homers, and the Los Angeles Angels went on to an 8-7 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. Guerrero extended his hitting streak to a season-high 12 games a week after coming off the disabled list for the second time this season.

Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira hit back-to-back homers in the eighth inning Sunday night, and the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 5-2 to finish their first four-game home sweep of their bitter rival in 24 years. Victor Martinez hit a two-run homer off Phil Coke (4-3) in the top of the eighth, snapping Boston's 31-inning scoreless streak and making it 2-1.

Another start against the Baltimore Orioles, another victory for Toronto's Roy Halladay. Halladay won his 10th straight decision over Baltimore, Vernon Wells and Marco Scutaro hit two-run homers in a four-run third and the Blue Jays beat the Orioles 7-3 on Sunday. Melky Cabrera and the New York Yankees knocked out John Smoltz early, and soon it was all over: They had finally beaten the Boston Red Sox. Muhammad Ali and a starry crowd watched as the Yankees beat Boston for the first time in nine games this season, with Cabrera and Jorge Posada hitting three-run homers in New York's 13-6 victory on Thursday night.

Angels hit 4 homers, beat White Sox 9-5 (AP)

Vladimir Guerrero hit his first home run in more than a month and Bobby Abreu, Jeff Mathis and Erick Aybar also went deep Thursday, sending the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Jayson Nix had a three-run homer for Chicago, which fell two games behind Detroit in the AL Central.
