Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez received a cortisone shot in his injured left shoulder Tuesday and hoped to be back in Chicago's lineup by Friday at the latest. The soreness is a setback for the left-hander, who has been on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation since July 26. Seattle Mariners third baseman Adrian Beltre is back in the lineup after a five-week absence. The Mariners activated Beltre from the disabled list Tuesday and designated infielder Chris Woodward for assignment. Beltre had surgery June 30 to remove a bone spur from his left shoulder. He was expected to be out six to eight weeks but recovered quickly.

Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was held out of the starting lineup Tuesday night against Florida because of a sore left shoulder.
