Grimsley appears at Clemens grand jury (AP)

Former major league pitcher Jason Grimsley appeared Tuesday at the courthouse where a grand jury is investigating Roger Clemens. Grimsley and his lawyer spent a little more than an hour at the federal courthouse in Washington. Grimsley had no comment as he left the building. Former Houston-area gym owner Kelly Blair arrived to testify shortly after lunch.

Johan Santana threw eight strong innings and tied his career high with two hits and an RBI as the New York Mets avoided a four-game sweep with a 5-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Sunday. Santana (13-8) tied for the major league lead in wins as he held the Padres to one run on five hits as New York won for only the third time in 11 games.

Jarrod Washburn's debut with the Detroit Tigers was forgettable. Washburn was upstaged by Brian Matusz, who looked stellar in his major league debut, as Baltimore routed Detroit 8-2 on Tuesday night. The Baltimore Orioles recalled left-hander Brian Matusz from Double-A Bowie and started him against Detroit on Tuesday night in his major league debut. Lincecum wins 12th, Giants top Phils 2-0 (AP)

Tim Lincecum won his 12th game blanking the Phillies for eight innings and San Francisco beat Philadelphia 2-0 on Saturday night. Lincecum struck out eight and leads the majors with 191. On Monday, he struck out 15 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Brian Wilson pitched the ninth for his 27th save in 31 opportunities and gave the Giants a major league-leading 14th shutout.

Josh Beckett pitched seven innings of six-hit ball for his major league-leading 13th win, Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis homered, and the Boston Red Sox cruised past the Baltimore Orioles 4-0 Saturday night. Youkilis went 4 for 4 with a walk. In the first two games of the series, he's 7 for 8 with two homers, three RBIs and three runs scored.
