Cards RHP Thompson to appeal suspension (AP)

St. Louis right-hander Brad Thompson will appeal a three-game suspension for pitching inside to the Mets' David Wright, a punishment Cardinals manager Tony La Russa called unfair. Thompson was not ejected after pitching up and in to Wright during New York's 9-0 victory on Wednesday, after the Cardinals' Albert Pujols and Ryan Ludwick were hit with pitches by Nelson Figueroa.

Mets get INF Hernandez from Nationals (AP)

The Mets acquired infielder Anderson Hernandez from the Washington Nationals for minor league infielder Greg Veloz. The 26-year-old Hernandez had stints with the Mets each of the previous four seasons. He was dealt to the Nationals last Aug. 20 to complete a trade in which New York acquired pitcher Luis Ayala.

Figueroa leads Mets over Cardinals 9-0 (AP)

Jorge De La Rosa set a franchise record by winning his seventh consecutive start and the Colorado Rockies beat New York 4-2 on Thursday night, earning a split in the day-night doubleheader and snapping the Mets' five-game winning streak. The Mets won the opener 7-0 behind Johan Santana, who struck out eight in seven sharp innings.

Mike Pelfrey pitched out of trouble into the seventh inning, the New York offense kept pecking away, and the Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 4-0 on Tuesday night for their fourth straight victory. Pelfrey rebounded from consecutive losses to again fluster the hot-hitting Rockies, running his scoreless innings streak against them to 20.

Mets CEO Wilpon stands by GM Minaya (AP)

Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon says he stands by Omar Minaya, but acknowledges the general manager made a mistake by questioning the motives of a reporter during a bizarre news conference. Wilpon said Minaya was "visibly shaken" on Tuesday, one day after the GM announced the firing of close friend and team executive Tony Bernazard.
