Indians trade INF Cannizaro to White Sox (AP)

The Cleveland Indians have traded infielder Andy Cannizaro to the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations. The Indians announced Thursday that Cannizaro will be assigned to Charlotte, Chicago's Triple-A affiliate. He was batting .269 with one homer and 19 RBIs in 50 games at Triple-A Columbus. Cannizaro, 30, was selected by the New York Yankees in the seventh round of the 2001 draft.

Hunter Pence hit a pair of three-run homers for a career-high six RBIs, powering the Houston Astros to a 14-6 victory over the Florida Marlins on Wednesday night. Pence's home runs highlighted a five-run first inning and a seven-run fourth that chased Ricky Nolasco (8-8). Florida had won five in a row.

Manny has HR, 3 RBIs as Dodgers roll (AP)

Manny Ramirez is not one to get overly excited about a potential sweep in August, or even a hitting funk here or there. Ramirez hit a towering two-run homer and also doubled in a run after two earlier intentional walks and the Los Angeles Dodgers routed the rival San Francisco Giants 9-1 on Tuesday night.

Jays promote INF Ruiz to fill Rios' spot (AP)

The Toronto Blue Jays have promoted infielder Randy Ruiz from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill Alex Rios' roster spot. The Blue Jays selected Ruiz's contract and put him in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the New York Yankees. He was batting sixth as the designated hitter. The 31-year-old Ruiz, a Bronx native, hit .320 with 25 homers and 106 RBIs in 114 games with Las Vegas.

Rangers 2B Kinsler to begin rehab stint (AP)

Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler, out since July 28 with a strained left hamstring, will begin a minor league rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Frisco on Wednesday. Kinsler, batting .242 with 23 homers and 63 RBIs, will play two games with Frisco. He is scheduled to rejoin the Rangers at home Friday when they open a series against Boston.

Tulowitzki hits for cycle, Rockies win (AP)

Troy Tulowitzki hit for the cycle and had a career-high seven RBIs to help Colorado beat the Chicago Cubs 11-5 on Monday night. Tulowitzki, who had a grand slam denied in the first video review at Coors Field, came to bat to lead off the seventh a triple shy of the franchise's fifth cycle and first in nine years.

Troy Tulowitzki has hit for the cycle in the Rockies' game against the Cubs, getting a triple in the seventh inning to become the fifth Colorado player to achieve the feat. Tulowitzki homered in the first, singled in the second and doubled in the fourth Monday as part of a 4-for-4 night. He also tied a career high with five RBIs.

Marlins win fourth straight, beat Astros (AP)

Rick VandenHurk pitched five effective innings, five Florida players had at least one RBI and the Marlins beat the Houston Astros 8-6 on Monday night for their fourth straight win. John Baker had two RBIs, and NL batting leader Hanley Ramirez had two singles and an RBI to help chase starter Brian Moehler (7-8) after five innings.

Diamondbacks demote CF Young to minors (AP)

Center fielder Chris Young, in a season-long offensive funk, has been optioned to Triple A Reno by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Young was hitting .194 with 23 doubles, seven home runs and 28 RBIs in 103 games when he was sent down Monday. He had two hits in his last 30 at-bats, and his average has not been above .205 since April 30.

Pujols gets 100 RBIs in 9 straight years (AP)

St. Louis Cardinals' Adam Wainwright(notes) pitches against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the seventh inning before being taken out of the baseball game in Pittsburgh,  Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009. Wainwright allowed one run on seven hits.

Willie Mays and Hank Aaron didn't drive in runs at the start of their careers like Albert Pujols has done. Stan Musial and Barry Bonds didn't, either. Pujols hit a three-run double to reach the 100 RBIs mark for the ninth consecutive season and Adam Wainwright limited Pittsburgh to one run over 6 2-3 innings, leading the Cardinals past the Pirates 5-3 on Saturday night.
