The Cincinnati Reds put newly acquired third baseman Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday after his concussion-related symptoms did not lessen. Rolen was not arguing the move made before Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, agreeing that it was the right thing for him and for the franchise.

Cards' Wellemeyer may be headed for DL (AP)

Todd Wellemeyer's return to the St. Louis Cardinals' rotation might have to wait indefinitely after the right-hander complained of a sore elbow following a bullpen session. Manager Tony La Russa said Wellemeyer, 7-9 with a 5.67 ERA for the NL Central leaders, could be headed for the 15-day disabled list.

Kosuke Fukudome and Derrek Lee homered, leading the Chicago Cubs past Jason Marquis and the Colorado Rockies 6-5 on Saturday night. The win allowed the Cubs to remain a game behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central and snapped the Rockies' 15-game winning streak over teams from that division.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Brad Thompson has been suspended for three games and fined for throwing a pitch near the head of the New York Mets' David Wright. Major League Baseball vice president Bob Watson said Thursday the pitch in the sixth inning a day earlier was intentionally aimed near Wright's head.
