Manny has HR, 3 RBIs as Dodgers roll (AP)

Manny Ramirez is not one to get overly excited about a potential sweep in August, or even a hitting funk here or there. Ramirez hit a towering two-run homer and also doubled in a run after two earlier intentional walks and the Los Angeles Dodgers routed the rival San Francisco Giants 9-1 on Tuesday night.

Adrian Gonzalez had a career-high six hits and the San Diego Padres had their best offensive output of the season in beating the struggling Milwaukee Brewers 13-6 on Tuesday night. Gonzalez paced the 22-hit attack as the Padres had at least two hits in every inning except the fourth when they were retired in order.

Mike Lowell, who entered the game after Kevin Youkilis was ejected for charging the mound and inciting a bench-clearing scuffle, hit two home runs to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 7-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. Ben Francisco led off the 12th inning with a home run off Cubs closer Kevin Gregg and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated Chicago 4-3 on Tuesday night despite getting only three hits all game. Jimmy Rollins also homered for the Phillies, who won for just the fourth time in 12 games and remained 3 1/2 games ahead of Florida in the NL East.

Marlins win fifth straight, beat Astros (AP)

Dan Uggla hit a game-ending RBI single in the 11th inning, and the Florida Marlins rallied to beat the Houston Astros 9-8 Tuesday night for their fifth straight win. Chris Coghlan started the inning with a walk off Wesley Wright (2-2), then Nick Johnson walked. After Hanley Ramirez and Jorge Cantu struck out, John Baker walked to load the bases.

Angels release erratic reliever Speier (AP)

The Los Angeles Angels unconditionally released right-hander Justin Speier on Tuesday night, finally tired of waiting for the veteran reliever to regain his form. Speier was 4-2 with a 5.18 ERA in 41 appearances for the Angels, whose historically reliable bullpen has struggled this season. He is due $4.75 million this season and $5.25 million in 2010.
